How much does house cleaning cost?

There is no honest single number, but there is an honest way to estimate it. This guide walks through how cleaning gets priced so you can judge any quote you receive.

Two ways cleaners charge

By the hour. You pay for the time the cleaner spends, sometimes per person. It looks simple, but the final figure is unknown until the job ends, and two cleaners on the same house can produce two different bills.

By the visit. The price is fixed in advance from the size and condition of the home. The cleaner carries the risk of the job taking longer. This is how we quote, because it lets you budget.

What drives any quote

  1. Square footage and bathrooms. More rooms mean more time; bathrooms add more than bedrooms.
  2. How long since the last proper clean. Build-up is the single biggest swing factor.
  3. Frequency. Weekly or every-two-weeks visits cost less each time than monthly ones.
  4. Pets, kids and clutter. Hair, crumbs and items on surfaces all add time.
  5. Extras. Ovens, fridges, inside cabinets, interior windows, laundry.
  6. Tax. In Kentucky, cleaning services carry the 6% sales tax under KRS 139.200.

Why a 2,000 sq ft house can cost more than a 2,500 sq ft one

A smaller house with three bathrooms, a dog and a kitchen that has not been deep cleaned in a year can take longer than a larger, newer house that was cleaned last month. Square footage gives a starting point; condition decides the rest.

Reading a quote

  • Is the price per visit or per hour?
  • Which rooms and tasks are included, and which are extra?
  • Is sales tax included or added?
  • What happens if something is missed?

Short answers

What is a fair price for house cleaning?

A fair price is one that matches the actual work: size, condition, frequency and extras, with tax shown. Compare quotes that cover the same task list.

Is hourly or flat pricing cheaper?

Neither is automatically cheaper. Flat pricing is more predictable; hourly can cost more if the job runs long.

How much does a cleaner cost for three hours?

That depends on the hourly rate and team size, which is why we quote by the job instead: you know the total before anyone arrives.
